CIRCLE 9

During their undergraduate years in Blacksburg, Virginia, Aiden England and Austin Spencer discovered their similar music tastes and shared passion for rock and metal music. Looking for something new after primarily doing solo work, the two agreed to join forces and form a collaborative project. In March 2020, the first demo was created for what would eventually become “Last Mile”. Later that year, the group would agree on the name “Circle 9”. This is the first official collaborative music project for both of them.

Circle 9 combines a wide range of styles, from Industrial Rock to Progressive Metal, while exploring concepts between Man, Machine, and the Ethereal. The band’s debut EP A Beetle on Its Back was released in April 2024. Singles “Hikikomori” and “Last Mile” were released in 2021, available on all platforms.

AIDEN ENGLAND

VOCALS, PRODUCTION

Born in rural Southeast Virginia, Aiden showed an affinity for many facets in music including singing and composition beginning in Elementary school. Since the age of 12, Aiden has been producing a constantly evolving style of electronic music, beginning with EDM, to Synthpop, to its final phase of Industrial under his initial pseudonym 80-UK. Heavily inspired by Trent Reznor's work in Nine Inch Nails, Aiden would occasionally produce visceral beat styles for local artists and perform vocals as well. As a novice of guitar, he would begin working with Austin during his senior year of college initially for playing lessons, which then transpired into the foundation of Circle 9.

The main influences behind Aiden's singing and production styles are artists such as Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Periphery, KMFDM and electronic artists such as Death Grips, HEALTH, and Boys Noize.

AUSTIN SPENCER

GUITARS, COMPOSITION

Born in Richmond, Virginia, Austin Spencer began playing guitar at the age of 11, taking lessons for a few months and continuing as a self-taught musician. Inspired by the likes of Metallica and Iron Maiden, he would practice for three hours a day and perform in various garage bands in high school. After graduating college in 2020, he would found Circle 9 with fellow member Aiden England.

Austin’s favorite artists include Rush, Iron Maiden, Haken, Opeth, Alice in Chains, Porcupine Tree, Periphery, and King Gizzard. He cites guitarists John Petrucci, Adrian Smith, Joe Satriani, Ritchie Blackmore, and Randy Rhoads among his main influences.
